The walking tour begins at Porto Cathedral, a Romanesque structure built in the 12th century that has undergone Gothic and Baroque additions over time. From the cathedral area, the route moves through the historic upper town toward São Bento Railway Station, known for its main hall covered with more than 20,000 azulejo tiles installed in the early 20th century. From São Bento, the tour continues along Avenida dos Aliados, an avenue developed in the early 1900s as part of Porto’s urban expansion. The avenue is surrounded by buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the City Hall at its northern end. Nearby, the route passes close to Livraria Lello, a bookstore opened in 1906, recognized for its Neo-Gothic interior and its role in Porto’s literary and publishing history.
The walk then leads toward Torre dos Clérigos, a bell tower completed in 1763 and designed by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni.
