Start the walking tour outside Place Saint-Germain des Prés. Visit the square built around a 6th-century abbey that became a center of intellectual and literary life in the 20th century. Walk along nearby streets, including Rue Bonaparte, which runs from the Seine to the Jardin du Luxembourg and was named after Napoleon Bonaparte. Continue to Rue Jacob, connecting Rue des Saints-Pères to Rue de Seine and named after a former Jacobin convent.

Follow Rue de Seine, which links Boulevard Saint-Germain to the Seine and has housed art galleries since the 19th century. Turn onto Rue de Buci, named after Simon de Buci, a former president of the Paris Parliament. Enter the Cour du Commerce Saint-André, opened in 1735, where the printing press of Jean-Paul Marat once stood and where the restaurant Le Procope has operated since 1686.
Walk along Boulevard Saint-Germain, opened in the 19th century under Georges-Eugène Haussmann, then pass Rue Danton, named after Georges Danton. Stop at Place Saint-André des Arts, laid out in the 19th century near the former site of the medieval city wall. See Fontaine Saint-Michel, built in 1860–1861 with a statue of Archangel Michael defeating the devil.
