Koumare Forest Day Trip

We will start our hiking route from the picturesque village called Kournas which is located 50 kilometres east of Chania. Our path will take us inside the very dense forest called Koumares. This forest is comprised of oak trees. Theese particular oak trees are found only in mountainous parts of Crete and in some islands of the Aegean Sea. The cretans call this tree Azilakas. Also the forest is very dense and it offers an escape from the heat of the summer. Finally we will end up where we started, at the village of Kournas where we can have launch at a local tavern with proper traditional food.

Highlights
