During this walking tour in Thessaloniki, travelers will encounter the White Tower, a 15th-century structure built by the Ottomans on the site of an older Byzantine fortification. Used at different times as a fortress, garrison, and prison, the tower is now a museum dedicated to the city’s history. Continuing through the historic city center, the tour passes by the Arch of Galerius, constructed in 305 AD to commemorate the Roman Emperor Galerius’ victory over the Persians. The arch once connected to a large palace complex, parts of which are still visible today.

Just a short walk away stands the Rotunda, a massive round building also commissioned by Galerius. Originally intended as a mausoleum, it was later converted into a Christian church and then into a mosque during Ottoman rule. Its thick walls have allowed it to withstand several earthquakes, and visitors can still see mosaics from the early Christian era inside.
